Needle Mudra
Effects of Suchi Mudra:
In Sanskrit, Suchi means needle, and this mudra has been compared to a traditional weapon that is sharp as a needle at its point. In Ayurveda, the word Suchi refers to purity and keeping the body clean. Suchi mudra is said to activate the Kundalini energy and balance all of the chakras and doshas. The extended, and sometimes tightened, index finger in this mudra is associated with and helps balance the Air Vayu. It is an easy way to stimulate circulation and digestive juices and benefit the entire digestive system, relieving constipation, gas, and other issues.
Because the index finger is related to Jupiter in the Kundalini Yoga tradition, this mudra helps us expand and access wisdom and knowledge intuitively. In many kriyas this mudra is held overhead with the index finger stiff and strong, to act as an antenna for collecting expansive Jupiter energy.
How to do Suchi Mudra:
- Leave your index finger extended straight up.
- Curl your other fingers down into your palm and hold them down with your thumb.
