Primal Seal Mudra

Effects of Adi Mudra:

The word Adi in Sanskrit means first or primal, and Adi Mudra consists of a fist with the thumb inside. Because the thumb is associated with the ego in the Kundalini tradition, this mudra has the effect of controlling the ego (sealing it off) or setting ego needs aside to focus on a higher motivation or purpose. Adi Mudra is also said to soothe and relax the nervous system and benefit the digestion and internal organs when included in yoga posture and exercises. It can increase the flow of oxygen to the neck and head, boosting the brain and sensory organs and potentially reducing snoring.

How to do Adi Mudra:

  1. Bring your thumb tip to touch the base or mound of your pinky finger. Then wrap your other fingers around your thumb, making a fist with the thumb inside.
  2. This mudra is held in many different places and positions in Kundalini Yoga, and the hands and/or arms are often moving while in Adi Mudra.
