Spinal Flex

“Spinal Flex is a fundamental movement that helps clear blockages along the spine, awakening the flow of Kundalini energy and helping the body align with breath and awareness.” — Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa

Spinal Flex

Spinal Flex is a core Kundalini Yoga exercise that involves rhythmic movement of the spine, working on each vertebra and releasing stored tension. In this pose, the practitioner sits cross-legged or in a comfortable seated position and rocks the pelvis and spine forward and back in sync with the breath. This movement is sometimes referred to as Camel Ride because it resembles the gentle, rocking motion of a camel walking; it is often used as a warm-up exercise and is featured in many, many kriyas.

The practice of Spinal Flex is beneficial for the entire spinal column, increasing circulation, flexibility, and cerebrospinal fluid flow. The increased circulation of cerebrospinal fluid changes over the fluid bathing the brain, refreshing mental acuity. It is also known to create a sense of emotional release, ease stress, and help align the body with breath, preparing the mind and body for meditation.
