Butterfly or Bound Angle Pose
Baddha Konasana, or Bound Angle Pose, is a grounding hip-opening posture that supports flexibility, relaxation, and inner stillness. Often referred to as Butterfly Pose and sometimes Cobbler’s Pose, it stimulates the lower chakras—Root (Muladhara) and Sacral (Svadhisthana)—promoting stability, creativity, and emotional balance. Physically, this pose stretches the inner thighs, groin, and hips, making it beneficial for improving circulation, releasing tension, and supporting reproductive health. It is commonly practiced in both restorative sequences and energetic kriyas, helping to calm the mind while increasing pranic flow in the lower body.
Baddha Konasana is often included in Kundalini Yoga kriyas focused on reproductive health, flexibility, and removing energetic blockages in the lower body. Holding this posture with deep breathing or Breath of Fire (Agni Pran) can awaken dormant energy, increase circulation, and clear tension stored in the hips and pelvis. The forward fold variation encourages surrender and introspection, making it a deeply meditative and transformative posture.
