Three-Stroke Breath for Health and Energy

June 11, 1998

We can take responsibility for our own health and energy, and good health develops radiance. Breath, Pavan, is the source of life. How much we consciously do this exercise determines how much life force energy we can absorb.

Posture:

Sit in Easy Pose (Sukhasana) with a straight spine, and a Neck Lock (Jalandhara Bandha).

Mudra:

Cross your palms and bring them together in front of your Heart Center allowing the right thumb to rest on top of the left thumb, and the fingers to fold  over the back of the opposite hand.

Movement & Breath:

  • Inhale powerfully through your mouth in three distinct parts, taking one second for each part. With each inhalation section, consciously tighten and release the grip on your hands, creating a pulsing rhythm that matches your breath.
  • Completely exhale through your nose in a single, one-second breath. Keep your hands clasped but relaxed during the exhale.

Eyes/Drishti:

Closed.

Duration:

Continue for 15 minutes.

Ending:

  1. Inhale and hold your breath for 15-20 seconds. Squeeze your hands together firmly and contract your entire body, drawing energy into your core. Cannon Fire exhale.
  2. Inhale and hold your breath for 15-20 seconds. Visualize your entire body becoming solid and immovable, like steel. Squueseyour shoulders, arms, legs, spine, and core to maintain this posture. Cannon Fire exhale.
