Sound Current Pranayama

This pranayam is said to turn disease into ease; it prevents disease from finding a home in the body. To master it, practice the full time on each side for 40 days.

Posture & Mudra:

Sit in Easy Pose (Sukhasana) or in a chair with a straight spine.

Mantra & Breath: 

  • Use your right index finger to close off your right nostril. Inhale in four equal segments through your left nostril as you mentally chant “SA TA NA MA”, then exhale in one long segment through the left nostril as you mentally chant “WAHE GURU”. Fill and empty your lungs completely. Continue for 31 minutes.
  • Use your left index finger to close off your left nostril. Inhale in four equal segments through your right nostril as you mentally chant “SA TA NA MA”, then exhale in one long segment through the right nostril as you mentally chant “WAHE GURU”. Fill and empty your lungs completely. Continue for 31 minutes.

Eyes/Drishti:

Closed.

Duration: 

Continue for 62 minutes total.

Ending: 

  1. Inhale deeply through your left nostril, then exhale completely through your left nostril.
  2. Repeat this sequence two more times.
  3. Inhale deeply through your right nostril, then exhale completely through your right nostril.
  4. Repeat this sequence two more times.
  5. Inhale deeply through both nostrils, exhale and relax.
