Refine the Mind for Intelligence and Intuition
September 20, 1989
When our minds are unchecked and our thoughts swirl and compound in unending cycles, we can become consumed by emotion and pain. The mind is not meant to run away with us, it is given to us as a tool to link up the physical form with the higher self, or soul; ideally it guides and helps us as a companion to the soul. With mastery over the mind, we can have sovereignty over our own lives, and, because the mind is outside of time and space, its creative capacity can also help us reach infinity.
The mind is the most powerful tool we have to build happiness. When refined, the mind builds our relationship to our true selves, interpreting our true selves, expanding our true selves, and projecting our true selves out for others to see. Kundalini Yoga was developed to organize and apply all aspects of the self, toward the net results of self-knowledge, intelligence, and intuition. In this meditation, you can refine your mind toward these results.

1. Self-Hypnosis
Posture & Mudra: Sit in Easy Pose (Sukhasana) with your arms stretched straight forward from the shoulders parallel to the floor. Bring both hands into Surya Mudra with the extended fingers pointing forward and the palms facing up.
Eyes/Drishti: Closed and focused on the Third Eye Point (Ajna Chakra).
Mantra & Mindful Attention:
- Stop listening to your thoughts and any outside sounds. Apply your mind to make your body stiff and strong as steel. Command your pituitary gland to excrete, so your body can go through the changes. Elevate yourself and focus on the words “I AM, I AM”. Heal yourself and conquer pain by hypnotizing yourself. Continue for 5 ½ minutes.
- Continue to meditate as you listen to a softly-played recording of the mantra “I AM THINE, IN MINE, MYSELF, WAHE GURU” for 4 minutes.
Suggested Recording: I am Thine in Mine Myself by Livtar Singh.
Duration: Continue for 9 ½ minutes total.
Ending: Immediately begin Exercise 2.
2. Meditation
Posture & Mudra: Remain in the posture and mudra from Exercise 1, but cross your arms with the left on top and bring your palms to rest on opposite shoulders. Keep your upper arms parallel to the floor.
Mantra:
- Continue to meditate as you listen to a softly-played recording of the mantra “I AM THINE, IN MINE, MYSELF, WAHE GURU” for 3 minutes.
Suggested Recording: I am Thine in Mine Myself by Livtar Singh.
- Continue to meditate as you listen to the mantra, and bring yourself into hypnotic prayer for 6 minutes.
Eyes/Drishti: Closed and focused on the Third Eye Point (Ajna Chakra).
Duration: Continue for 9 minutes total.
Ending: Relax.
Inhale deeply and suspend your breath for 20 seconds. Exhale.
Repeat this sequence two more times.
