Maturity Assessment Meditation

October 25, 1988

Maturity is a process of combining intelligence with consciousness, a state where no argument, circumstances, feelings, expectations, or demands can change our commitment. With maturity we have the strength to defeat the lower self and can find our own internal wisdom.

Maturity can also be thought of as the basis of success and others’ trust in us. People see our identity, clarity, goodwill, and purity. We make good on our promises, so they trust that we will do what we say in the future. Use this meditation to reflect on and develop your own maturity.

1. Maturity Self-Assessment

Posture & Mudra: Sit in Easy Pose (Sukhasana). Place the hands over your eyes, with the fingertips at the level of your hairline and the base of the palms on your cheek bones.

Mantra, Mindful Attention & Breath:

  • Inhale deeply, then close your nostrils off by pushing on both sides of your nose with the outsides of the palms.
  • Hold your breath in as long as possible. As you hold, mentally focus and reflect on your own maturity. Take a mature thought, hold it in your mind, and assess it against your identity.
  • Exhale when you need to, and continue in this way.

Duration: Continue for 11 minutes.

Ending: Immediately begin Exercise 2.

2. Heart Center Press

Posture & Mudra: Remain in Easy Pose (Sukhasana) and press both hands on your Heart Center (Anahata Chakra).

  • Loudly chant “I AM THINE, IN MINE, MYSELF, WAHE GURU” for 5 ½ minutes.
  • Strongly whisper the mantra “I AM THINE, IN MINE, MYSELF, WAHE GURU” for 5 ½ minutes.

Suggested Recording: I am Thine in Mine Myself by Livtar Singh.

Eyes/Drishti: Closed.

Duration: Continue for 11 minutes total.

Ending: Inhale deeply and suspend your breath for 5 seconds. Exhale and relax.
