The Divine Shield Meditation

Cultivate Positivity and Protection

September 24, 1971

The feeling of being unprotected can lead to negativity and despair. This meditation can be a powerful tool to cultivate a sense of safety and connection with the universe’s supportive energy.

  • This meditation is believed to expand your aura, the electromagnetic field surrounding your body. A strong aura is said to promote feelings of security and protect you from negativity.
  • By chanting the mantra “MAAA,” a sound associated with the compassion and protection of the universal mother, you call on the universe’s protective energy and get out of frantic mental calculations.

Posture & Mudra:

  • Right Hand: Bend your right elbow and rest it on top of your right knee. Cup your right palm, then place it against your skull so it rests below your right ear and remains open at the top and front. Imagine cupping your hand to hear a faint sound more clearly.
  • Right Leg: Bring your right knee up, placing your right foot flat on the ground with the toes pointing forward.
  • Left Leg: Place the sole of your left foot against the arch and ankle of your right leg. The ball of your left foot rests just in front of your right ankle bone.
  • Left Hand: Make a fist with your left hand and place it on the ground beside your hip for balance.

Breath & Mantra:

  • Inhale deeply and chant the mantra “MAAAAAAAAAA” in a long, smooth, and full sound.
  • Chant at a comfortably high pitch.
  • Project the sound as if someone is listening to you.
  • When you have exhaled completely, inhale deeply and begin chanting again.
  • In a group setting, individuals may breathe at different times, creating a seemingly continuous sound.

Eyes/Drishti:

Close your eyes and focus on the Third Eye Point (Ajna Chakra).

Mindful attention:

As you chant, sense the vibration resonating throughout your body. If practicing in a group, listen to the overtones that develop and allow them to surround you.

Duration:

Begin by practicing for 11 minutes on each side. Over time, gradually increase the duration to 31 minutes per side for a total meditation time of 62 minutes.

Always practice the same amount of time on both sides.
