Kriya to Conquer Inner Anger and Burn It Out

March 8, 1999

Please note that the first exercise of this kriya was previously published as Conquer Inner Anger and Burn It Out in the manual Reaching Me in Me. During Arete’s research, we found that there were three additional exercises taught during the original class, and we felt that they were all part of one cohesive kriya. For this reason we have chosen to publish these exercises together for the first time.

Anger we hold toward ourselves, about who we were told to be, the harm we’ve caused, our past decisions, failures, and weaknesses, builds up, layer upon layer, over time. Eventually there are so many layers that it is like molten lava buried deep beneath many layers of earth. Some few people have so much self control that they can prevent the lava from bursting out and burning everything around, but they expend a lot of energy keeping it down. When this anger does get out, we have no control over it, and it can cause a lot of damage in our communication and relationships.

To get rid of this anger constructively, without harming those you love or your relationships, use this kriya. It is said that doing this meditation daily for 40 days can change your entire personality.

1. Sitali Pranayama to Clear Anger

Posture & Mudra: Sit in Easy Pose (Sukhasana) with the arms stretched straight out to the sides, parallel to the floor, without bending the elbows. Bring the hands into Suchi Mudra with the index fingers pointing straight up. Keep the index fingers stiff and straight throughout; if you are doing the posture correctly, the index finger will hurt.

Breath: Sitali Pranayama, inhale through the rolled tongue and exhale through the nose.

Eyes/Drishti: Closed.

Mindful Attention:Concentrate on your spine. The posture and mudra will become uncomfortable, and this may make you angry. Use your anger as motivation, put your anger into your breathing, and it will be cleared.

Duration: Continue for 11 minutes.

Ending: Repeat this sequence two more times.

Inhale deeply, suspend your breath for 10 seconds as you stretch your arms out to the maximum. Exhale.

2. Affirmation

Posture & Mudra: Sit in Easy Pose (Sukhasana) with the hands interlaced and held against the solar plexus.

Mantra: Loudly sing the affirmation “GOD AND ME, ME AND GOD ARE ONE.

Eyes/Drishti: Closed.

Mindful Attention: Visualize you and God as one. See the union happening; realize unity.

Duration: Continue for 2 ½ minutes.

Ending: Immediately begin Exercise 3.

3. Breath of Fire

Posture & Mudra: Sit in Easy Pose (Sukhasana) with the hands pressed on the Navel Center (Manipura Chakra).

Movement & Breath: Breath a powerful Breath of Fire, moving the diaphragm so powerfully that the shoulders jump.

Duration: Continue for 3 minutes.

Ending: Immediately begin Exercise 4.

4. Cannon Breath

Posture & Mudra: Remain in the same posture as Exercise 3.

Movement & Breath: Breath a powerful Cannon Breath, or Breath of Fire through the O shaped mouth.

Duration: Continue for 1 minute.

Ending: Inhale deeply, suspend the breath for 20 seconds, press your hands on the Heart Center and squeeze your whole body. As you hold, slowly twist your torso left and right. Exhale to the center, and relax.

Inhale deeply, suspend the breath and press your hands on the Heart Center for 10 seconds. Squeeze your whole body tightly and eliminate all false vanity. Exhale.

Inhale deeply, suspend the breath and press your hands on the Heart Center for 10 seconds. Squeeze your whole body tightly and wipe out all hidden anger. Exhale
